Silver Trail
The Silver Trail offers visitors both an accessible historic front country
and a spectacular wilderness backcountry. A rich history of mining for
gold and silver can be seen not only in local museums, but also in the
artifacts, mine implements, historic sites, buildings and other traces of
a bygone era dotting the landscape.
While it was the search for
gold along the Stewart River in 1883 that first brought Caucasian men to
the region, it was the discovery and subsequent development of massive
silver deposits that gave the area its name, character and stability.
